Writers and creative people occasionally become creatively blocked and need to jump-start their creativity. There are several ways to promote your creativity including joining a writers group, carrying around a small notebook to write in, really listening to the people around you, interviewing people, and looking up some keywords on topics that you are interested in. One way to jump-start your creative juices is by taking yourself out on an artist date or a writers date. You take yourself out alone or with friends on a creative date to fill your inner well with images and ideas. These trips can include a trip to the bookstore, a movie, a sculpture garden, a book reading, a walk in the woods, a trip down to the shore, a poetry reading, music, art events, or a great play. There are images and ideas all around us that can fill our inner creative well up. The key is too really see, hear, smell, and feel what is around you and not just walk by it.
I want to feel the grass under my feet, smell the roses, taste the nectar of a peach, and hear the sound of the rushing waterfall. I want to savor each moment I hear the birds singing and I want to watch their amusing dance. I love the sand in my toes, the red clay I can mold, and the gently breeze as the clouds move above me. I love the shape of seashells, starfish, and the roar of the ocean. I love to hear the sound of children laughing and the wind running through their hair. I want to touch the newborn babies and hold them gently in my arms. I want to chew each piece of food slowly, so that I remember each taste to the fullest. I want to smell the strong scent of fresh coffee and the sweet scent of cinnamon buns. I want to really see the people around me and not just walk by someone because they are homeless. Learn to listen with all of your sense and your writing will be rich and your painting will be beautiful.
